Today's lecture in Quantum Technology takes us to the properties of a special
class of Psion Lord called the Timeater. Although Timeaters are a
naturally occurring phenomenon, their use in advanced medicine is nevertheless
an exercise in Quantum Technology and therefore within the scope of this
series of lectures. Beyond this we have to understand the process by which
Timeaters gain their power as an exercise in enthropic flow applicable to any
system which moves through a quantum vortex across time-space.
The timeater was theorized long before they could be harnessed as a resource.
Before the application of Quantum theory made possible transfer of mass and
energy between discreet points in time-space, a large body of though
concerning time travel was compiled by our forefathers. From this body of
theory came at least two quantized probabilities for the results of such a
transfer.
Earlier 'no-signalling' limits on time-space transfers bred one camp of
theorists which was on the border between declaring time-travel beyond all
possibility and the probability that it can happen only as long as nobody
knows that it has happened. This camp often failed to accept the axiom that
the mind is separate from the physical plane and thusly believed that moving
through time would be limited to the duration span of the body involved. Such
a body would then become exactly as it had been in that time rendering moot
the whole point of the transfer. This limitation was later retained even as
the roots of this logic were abandoned.
Breakoffs from this camp covered a number of sub-classes including the group
which theorized that movement of time was always chaotic and we simply
perceived it as orderly. Temporal-anarchists as they were called came close
to espousing a belief in consciousness as separate from the body, however, they
saw physical law as the discriminating factor in keeping the illusion of
timelines going. From any point in time-space, only adjacent points will be
directly observable, thus, they believed, the absolute structure of space
would prevent the observer from realizing that moments did not follow in any
specific order. This camp spawned the groups which accepted the mind-body
split without abandoning the no signalling limitation.
It is not in the spirit of this lecture to go further into the detailed
theories and arguments of this camp, except to note that there is also a camp
from this group which moved to the other camp by denying that the physical
and mental realities are irreversibly bonded together and used this to
postulate that parallel timelines are likely. What holds this camp together,
in all its sub-classes, is the belief that there is only a single timeline.
Implementation of the 'grandfather-paradox' led this camp to be named the
neo-paradoxists.
The second camp saw many parallel timelines earning it the name
'Poly-temporalists.' Poly-Temporalists started with the belief that an
infinite number of parallel timelines existed, each branching from a desision
made in the course of one other timeline at the point where that decision is
acted upon. This infinity clause was abandoned rapidly when an inverse
application of the Russel paradox showed that two separate timelines could
produce a single timeline by merging the complex resultant matrix of a single
unifying decision. In short, two closely related realities could produce a
single decision which taking each path from the other reality would produce a
singular resultant reality. Such merging of realities demonstrated that the
total number of plausible realities was less than infinite.
Later, the concept of quantum inertia was applied. In short, there is a limit
to the span during which some facts are actualized. It is possible for a
decision to be so minor, beneath one divergent quantum, that there is no need
for segregate realities to contain the probabilities. The extancy of conditions
which do not split the timeline also reduces the number of separate realities
far below infinity.
Early application of quantum principle, in specific the Heisenberg Uncertainty
Principle, allows for some degree of time slipping. This implication was first
realized by the temporal anarchists. All that it really says is that an object
which is not actualized at any one point in time-space can be actualized at
any other point in time-space. In short, an object can slip through time. This
did not allow for any object which possessed the property of self-awareness to
move through time do to the no-signalling clause in the theory relating to
action at a distance.
It had been observed that particles could pair in such a way that the actions
of one would immediately act upon the other. Distance between the two
particles was not relevant, thus, the connection propagated at higher than
light speed. In fact, this propagation was instant at any range. Using this
connection to send a message along sounded like an affront to the universally
recognized light speed limit. Some people dropped the light speed limit as it
applied to thought and applied their research there. Others reconciled this
discrepancy by creating the no-signaling requirement.
In order to protect the light speed limit, the actualization of particle states
at a distance must be random in such a way as to forbid the use of this
property to conduct data exchanges. This had problems of its own in that it
rendered quantum states beyond influence excepting for the connecting force.
If you can alter the general quantum state at one end of the connection, then
the quantum state at the other end of the connection would be intelligently
controlled at the same time. Some theorists excuse this in that you would have
a hard time discriminating between the controlled quantum states and the
uncontrolled quantum states at the receiver's end.
This whole problem results from the blind acceptance that the physical world
is the ultimate reality. Allowing for general uncertainty, we have a reality
which is far more limited and thusly there can be things outside this
limitation. Without allowing that the accepted reality of time-space is a
finite portion, less then the whole, of all reality, movement across time-space
cannot exceed the refresh rate of the universe. As we reach the upper and
lower limits of N-space we begin to notice that N-space is less than absolutely
real.
Finite probability plus the adaptability of the mind allowed for a series of
slippers. Slippers are objects which, without regard for size or mass, can
escape notice for periods of time greater than one refresh cycle of the
universe. At this point, the slipper is reduced to a quantum probability
curve and can be actualized at any point in N-space at which it would
otherwise fit into the surrounding reality matrix. This object must not appear
odd or out of place in any way or it can not be actualized there. Further, the
slipper may not be missed from its original point in N-space.
An interesting side effect of this process was then theorized. In order for
the mass-energy envelope to remain closed, all the energy of the slipper has
to be transferred with it. This clearly places the slippers into the second
camp as it forbids the slipper to be as it would have been in the time into
which it has been actualized. However, the enthropic state of the slipper will
be drawn by osmosis to nominalize into its environment.
Enthropic flows of this kind will cause the slipper to become as closely as it
is capable of being to the environment into which it has been actualized. Yet,
the change also has a definitive effect on the environment as well. On such a
large scale, the change in time energy, enthropy, will not be noticed and thus
the principles of the slipper's restrictions are met. The Jumping of one
slipper does not have to cause a split in timelines even though there is a
definitive, quantitative alteration in the manifold of time-space where the
slipper is actualized.
From there, the net effect of a slipper was placed at a minimum of 1 unit of
enthropy and a maximum 1 quantum-moment short of one divergent quantum. Note
that the quantum moment is a unit of time during which the effect must be
complete and the divergent quantum is the net change which must occur in that
time. This places the maximum change effected by the slipper at half the
value required to create a divergent timeline. Precisely why this limit of
half is placed on the jump is not completely understood and is the subject of
many arguments.
We generally accept this limitation. The first half of the divergent quantum
is theorized to come from the actualization of the slipper into a point of
time-space and the remaining half (half-1 unit really) results from the
reaction that the time-space manifold has to this change. It is as though the
slipper exists as both it's actualized self and quantum probability curve for
the instant during which it pops into N-space. Past that moment, the slipper
is even able to create a divergent timeline without violating its properties.
In general, we take this to mean that quantum instants, the time slice during
which reality is refreshed, has to remain stable in itself and that this is
only true of the moments. Otherwise, the slipper would be unable to jump if it
would cause a divergence anywhere in the timeline. Theory must discount this
probability since requiring that timelines be unalterably fixed would dismiss
the poly-temporalist concept entirely.
It is necessary to break the chain of thought at this point to get to the actual
TimEaters before we have their properties isolated. TimEaters are more
complex than slippers. A slipper is an object, by definition incapable of
self-actualization. TimEaters do not have this lack. Although a timeater who
could self-actualize would cease to be a timeater, it is necessary to note that
timeaters do not lack the physical ability. They lack the mental ability.
Timeaters live in a different view of reality. Their weak grasp on time requires
that they be externally actualized into any reality which they occupy. A true
timeater must have no image of self or he'll self-actualize into a single
time-stream to which that image belongs. This image could belong to any one
of a countless number of realities, however, he will be isolated into only
one of them. To a timeater, N-space is a dream with all the inconsistencies
relating to that dream.
A timeater will not make his first jump until he has assumed a point in his
life at which his absence will not be missed by a full divergent quantum. It
does not matter if his absence leaves a hole unless that lack would generate
a divergent timeline. The absence of a timeater may not cause timelines to
diverge due to the continuity property of time, even though the presence of a
timeater may cause divergences. Moment continuity, temporal inertia really,
means that a timeater's absence is plausible without violating the first
principle that his absence not cause a divergent timeline to spawn. If this
divergent timeline was to spawn indirectly due to the timeater's absence, his
'jump' would still be allowed because that moment would only experience the
balanced forces within that moment.
Since a timeater spans moments of time during a jump, splitting the timelines
would destroy the timeater. One entity, the timeater, would have to be split
into two entities during that jump. Since the energy of the timeater must
remain constant, the physical form of the timeater would not be sustainable.
Theoretically, it would be plausible to add such a surge of energy during
the jump that the timelines would each hold a complete copy of the timeater
without killing him.
General arguments against this poly-temporal structure is mostly in the form
of applying the conservation of energy principle. Two divergent universes
should, by this principle, split the total energies of the single base universe
during the divergence. However, the divergent universes never actually touch
each other or the base universe from which they diverge. Each moment must be
complete in itself and the stability is not maintained between moments.
Theorists then argued that splitting the universe into divergent copies should
require the same principle energy consumption as the splitting of the timeater.
On the surface, this is a good point. Deeper in, we come back to how the base
universe was created from an energy viewpoint. These theorists rely on the
belief that the total energy in the universe must be 0, because the
conservation of energy forbids the creation or destruction of energy and, since
the universe is made of energy, matter is a form of energy, the universe could
not come about unless the total sum of all energy in the universe is zero. We
must go on to the belief in positive and negative energy to understand why this
theory is disfranchised.
This theory starts with the universe resulting from a quantum flux in a vacuum.
Since there is a positive and negative edge to the flux, these theorists then
add these total values together to result in a zero total energy. What they
forget is that they're not talking about the value of the energy, but the
quantity. Even at it's simplest level, difference in potential is always a
positive quantity of energy even if the value of the energies involved is of
opposing polarities. Further, splitting these polarities would require the
addition of the total energy of the universe since this difference in
potential would in effect store the total energy which it contains. There's no
getting around the external generation of the universe, including the laws
which govern it.
We easily accept that a moment from now will receive all the energy from this
moment without complaining about a disparity in the conservation of energy.
However, if two moments spawn in parallel, our seeing of time as a strait,
one-dimensional line forbids us to accept that the same thing is true. This
can be true, however, as long as the moments which align along parallel
paths have the same type of connection as consecutive moments in any single
timeline.
There are two types of movement: push and pull. Type 2 Timeaters move by the
pull method, thus he disoriented. Type one moves by push so he actually fits
into the time to which he jumps. I listed these backwards because it is only
type two timeaters which demonstrate the existence of timeaters. All good
science must relate in some way to measured and observable phenomenon.
Push type timeaters are driven from their own time internally. They
de-actualize themselves by the same natural properties that they possess which
renders them timeaters in the first place. In essence, they simply stop
believing in the time they are in. Since they have no self-image, there is
nothing to hold them solid or extant. As long as no external force holds him
in a definite state, he assumes an undefined state and can leap from one
moment to any other which will accept him. Even push-driven timeaters require
an external self-aware coordinator in order to be actualized at the destination
point.
Usually, this coordinator is expecting to see someone where nobody from that
moment would actually be. Since he is, at least, receptive to the idea of
somebody being at that point in time-space, the actualization of the timeater
into that point is not unusual for him. If the timeater's 'pop' into a definite
state would be anything other than natural for the coordinator, then the
timeater's destination point would not be available and he does not jump. The
coordinator, who has no significant properties in himself, never sees the
timeater actualize into his moment since this would alert the subject to the
change in state.
Both ends of the corridor must be defined at the same moment for the jump to
occur, even though the jump itself always occurs in the refresh cycle between
moments. This sounds like an odd requirement for time travel since there is
no real limit on the local time at either end of the corridor. Why not connect
a point at which the source point is ready and jump to a point at which the
destination point is ready? Because this requirement implies that the two
disparate moments have enough in common for the jump to have no measurable
effect on either point in time-space.
Pull driven timeaters are the evidence which proves that timeaters exist. A
pull driven timeater, as the name suggests, is actually drawn to a point in
time-space by a conscious act on the part of the conduit on the destination
end of the corridor. Doing this is still an extremely theoretical function
even though it has been done. Our current understanding of this process is
always open to revision and has yet to be completed.
As it stands, we come to the device by way of blind faith in the theory. Since
timeaters are born with their gift, none of them have to be prepared at the
source end for the jump. All of the preparations have to be made at the
destination end. All the conduit has to do, different from the coordinator who
also does not have to exert any intentional effort, is step into the corridor
and synchronize with a timeater inside the source. This synchronization takes
care of the requirement that both ends of the jump be prepared at the same
time. The problem is getting into the corridor.
Getting into the corridor involves a probability shift which disconnects the
phase of the matter within the field from that of the surrounding space-time
manifold. Commonly, this is done with the help of a wonder of quantum
technologies called a photon crystal. When the matrix, all mass-energy mapped
into a 4 dimensional frame, is brought to solvency for the field-phase shift,
the photon crystal stores this pattern. There exists infinite amounts of
storage space within a reflective container for a simple pattern of reflected
light. It's a bit more complex when the pattern is reduced to a quantum
refraction vortex to prevent interference patterns when the beam reflects
across itself, but that is beyond the scope of this paper.
That was the easy part. You control the amount of 'relative duration' that the
effected area has by the entry vector into the crystal. The pattern only stays
within the crystal for a period of time, which must be greater than two
moments to prevent the loss of the coordinator, before it returns to its point
of entry and is extracted. We say that the crystal taps the regenerator coil
when this point is reached and the mass shift is normalized. It is also
important that the phase shift be less than 15 degrees of lag or the time-space
within the field will be shifted into a stable matrix within another universe.
At this point, we have to rely on the cybernetics discipline. The standard senses
which are used within time-space will not be adequate to connect with a timeater.
For this, we need a mason map. We can compute this as a probability function,
then projecting it into the field. Since the field has reached homogeny, unable
to differentiate between mass, energy or space, this projection produces a
palpable shift in the probability curve and will cause actualization of any
timeater within the corridor who has a similar enough engram. Shifting the
whole thing back into stable time-space will then cause the pulled timeater to
actualize at a point within the field.
The second law of Thermodynamics states that entropy always increases relative
to time. If he moves forward, he doesn't store entropy, he stores the lack of
it. When he discharges, the charge is held close to him by inertia. The
entropy in the space around him doesn't want to move out of the way, thus
there's resistance. For an instant, time stands still inside this bubble. It's
like a time loop connecting every moment of your life for as long as you're
inside the timeless-void. If you view time flow across you as a process of
growing up, then growing old, to what point would you jump just because it
feels most like home to you?
It's not a conscious act. For that instant, you're not 3 dimensional; thus
you don't exist in this reality. Of all the possible permutations of
yourself, one of them is the most like you are to yourself. That's the one
you'll 'snap to' when reality returns. By then, you are solid and cannot
change outside the void. This enthropic bubble leads us to the name 'Timeater'
since he does eat time within that point of time-space.
It's possible to kill by this process if you were to have a 'eugenic
optimum' which has nothing in common with the real you. You'd 'snap-to' a
conflicting state and probably die as a result. Yet, it's extremely rare. We
call this effect 'eugenocide.' The effect of eugenocide is also found in early
genetic experiments and draws it's extancy from the bounding process called
'natural selection.' Aside from the presidence for this effect, eugenics is
the topic for another paper in another discipline.
The discharge isn't lethal--he'd age faster if he doesn't discharge over time,
but the discharge regenerates everything in the field to it's purest
State of Health. We view the discharge as splitting the physical
from the spiritual. Reality recrystallizes around the spiritual essence,
hence the 'purest state of health.' His patients could be damaged at that
level and could revert into whatever they are at heart. Possibly children.
If his entropy level was higher than his environment, then when he releases
his entropy, it would tend to have a degrading rather than healing effect on
his surroundings.
Both states are actually a release. It's only the polarity, which changes.
When moving forward, a timeater has less entropy than the environment.
Defining time as the net increase of entropy in the system, this effects time.
If he has less entropy than his environment, the negative 'time' plus positive
'time' produces an area of no 'time.' If he has positive entropy, then the
discharge is 'time' plus positive 'Time' which is a net increase in time
within the field. Rather than being thrown out of time-space, you are held
inside it, and time passes rapidly at the molecular level.
At this point, inertia becomes important again. The entropic
flow doesn't pass through you evenly. It has to fight against your density
like a brisk wind. Your outer skin ages so fast that the Molecules vaporize.
Beneath that, the time flow is so unstable that your atomic structure is
spread out over time, even though it hasn't moved. Rapid breakdown (aging)
complicated by the field not being uniform. The denser the object, the more
striations in the field moving across it. Timeaters are unaffected
by this because they de-actualize, stepping Outside of time, while discharging.
They're held in place by anything intelligent which is fully aware of their
presence. That's why Timeaters have to be outsiders and cannot be missed when
they're gone.
Since he is caught inside the field at all times, unless he doesn't
discharge before the slow leak breaks him down, he will regenerate at each
stage. He will only age the short time periods between discharges, and can
have an indefinite life span with the regenerations. He could only be
destroyed by not discharging in time, or mental breakdown before a
discharge. You cannot be forced to become a timeater. It requires
physical properties you couldn't just learn. Once a timeater 'actualizes to a
time' he must have the same properties as anybody else as far as the
'oneness of self.' He's only spread across time when he jumps, and he's a
probability equation then.
In positive entropy discharge, the state of mind isn't that
relevant because it's an effect of the matter plane, not the spirit plane.
Negative entropy favors the spirit plane and positive entropy favors the
physical plane. I tend to state that the spirit world is the real world
and this is but a shadow.
A timeater is required to de-actualize partially during the discharge or the
equalization of enthropy, modeled as movement through time, would cause the
timeater to assume the age he would otherwise be at that point in time-space.
Enthropic charge within a timeater slowly leaks causing him to 'age' toward
the state he'd occupy at that point in space-time. Whereas inhabitants of that
time-frame will age only forward and at a standard rate, this discharge causes
the timeater to age rapidly toward whatever age he'd be at that point. Caution
must be taken to discharge the timeater before he is destroyed by the uneven
time-flow.
The 'paraseer' is moved by a side effect of the entropy disturbances
across the time line. For an instant, there would be a connection between
points in time, kind of like the 'string theory of time travel.' Since
time is moving at a different rate within the fields, there would be a
tendency to 'push' objects within the field to the real-time, which
corresponds, to the movement of time. De-age 20 years, and you'll be
connected to yourself 20 years ago. If an object was small enough to
overcome the psionic bond, the spiritual connection that prevents this
movement, then it could slip through. By this process, it follows the
timeeater through time whenever he discharges. That allows it to always be at
the right place. The Paraseer is immune to the timeater's main defence since
the enthropic discharge physically throws it back in time.
Paraseer is a contraction of 'parasite' and 'seer' implying the symbiotic
relationship between the Paraseer and the timeater. There needs not be
anything evil about these creatures any more than there is a need for
benevolence in timeaters. Modern society has a distaste for them because they
are less useful than timeaters. They serve a purpose in maintaining the
flow of timelines even when it is to our advantage to bend these lines.
Most research into paraseers lies in the field of preventing them from
neutralizing timeaters. Since the paraseer rides the probability shift
produced by the enthropic discharge, he never catches up to the timeater. His
entry to the timeline matches the point of discharge from the timeater, yet
there is no range limit as far as space goes. The fold which pulls the
paraseer into a timeline usually has it's greatest stress on the timeline in
close proximity to the timeater, thus that is where the paraseer appears. It
is not, however, possible for the paraseer to directly enter the field since
the flow inside the field is the exact opposite of the flow which brings the
paraseer into the timeline.
Commonly, the paraseer is a ghost from one timeline moving in another line.
There is little theory on why these people are pulled across time as they
are. When they enter the timeline, they do so to balance the change caused by
the discharge of the timeaters, thusly they appear to be a part of the
timeline. When a paraseer is part of a moment, everybody else in that
moment sees the paraseer as belonging to that moment. Unlike timeaters,
paraseers play a direct part in history and are the object of the change
enacted to counter the timeater's effect. In order to stabilize the time flow
once the paraseer leaves, a physical change is necessary in the expansion
matrix.
The most amazing part of all the changes made by the timeaters and paraseers
is that nobody involved really notices it. Timeaters jump from time to time,
healing with their discharges and paraseers pop into time-space to
counterbalance the effects. Paraseers become people which we feel we've known
for our whole lives, yet we do not notice when they ride the quantum curves
between distant moments. You'd think that the effects had by the paraseers
would not go unnoticed and yet it was the timeaters we first discovered.
